Yay!!! This trip was absolutely fantastic! Despite having been to the National Gallery several times before, it was cool to see some of the new exhibits, plus venture into some areas that I hadn't been able to spend as much time in in the past. Sidenote: the cafeteria in the National Gallery is the best ever, despite being a little pricey. I really enjoyed the exhibits we got to see in the Hirshorn, they were contemporary and very visionary. The basement exhibit with the giant words written on black or red was incredible, and I made it my personal mission to make sure that I read all of it. We also saw some beautiful video art exhibits, one of them incorporating spinning tops, and the other showing a band in a Venetian canal. Having never been to the American Art Museum/Portrait Gallery, I was astounded when I saw all of the fantastic pieces inside. I appreciated all of the great portraits, but what caught my attention most was the contemporary art. I was captivated by all the different video installations and I also really enjoyed the variety of sculptures that was in the exhibit. | |
